I am Jammin Lewis-- a mom, grandmom, lifelong educator, and now a postpartum doula. I received birth doula certification from the International Doula Institute, and postpartum doula certification from DONA. I am fortunate to have also become an Innate Postpartum Care- Certified Practitioner with Rachelle Garcia Seliga. My interest in becoming a doula is an outgrowth of my love and admiration for women’s strength, vitality, can-do spirit, wit and wisdom. I also have an abiding belief that women often operate in silos, not acknowledging or requesting their need for support.

My mother passed away when I was a child. I had no aunts, and my grandmother transitioned when I was fifteen. This void of elder women in my village was most pronounced when I became a mom. Although I never voiced it, I was pretty terrified caring for this little life, with no one to rely on for advice or encouragement. I read A LOT. Penelope Leach became a constant. And I made it through. But the loneliness and insecurities, and sometimes judgment that I felt, left me drained. Many times, I wished I had someone to share these feelings with, or to just reassure me. Now I understand that what I really needed and wanted was mothering. Now I know that this was how it was done traditionally. And now I know the importance of that village of women servants, and the benefits to both mother and child to have someone “mothering the mother” as she cares for her baby. I am a full spectrum doula, and I am passionate about supporting you on both sides of your journey.

E*Powered Doulas’ goal is to ensure mom's health and wellbeing are front and center: that she rests, eats well, is warm and heard. And to leave each mom with the skills, knowledge, information and confidence that she is uniquely capable of caring for her baby. And because this journey has shown me the dedication and motivation of dads to be a part of this process in substantive ways, my goal is to support them in being present, prepared and seen.
